While walking through the Shiganshina District city, Eren and Mikasa encounter a group of soldiers guarding the gates, including Hannes and Hugo, who are laughing and drinking on the job. His adoptive sister Mikasa Ackermann asks him the reason but he is unable to remember what he was dreaming. As they encounter a Titan, they attempt to assault it in an effort to establish humanity's first base outside their own Walls.
The Scout Regiment are traveling through a forest. On that day, humanity received a grim reminder, on how they lived in fear of the Titans and were disgraced to live in the cages they called Walls. The giant hand of a Titan is seen above Wall Maria, ominously looming over the Walls, as the onlookers below gape in awe.
In the first recap movie, episodes 1-13 of the anime are retold, retelling two story arcs: The Fall of Shiganshina arc and The Struggle for Trost arc, while leaving out a majority of the Humanity's Comeback arc.
